20 African Coral Tree (Erythrina caffra) seeds, hand-collected in Sicily. Can be grown as a bonsai or planted out to grow to full size.
Native to south-eastern Africa, but also found in California and India, Erythrina caffra has with prickled bark and tubular blossoms - bright orange/red inflorescences. It is regarded as one of the most spectacular flowering trees, with up to 80 flowers per cluster.
Erythrina is also "The official tree of Los Angeles"
CARE:
These seeds are untreated - to increase your germination rate, consider scarification and soaking.
To propagate trees from seed, prepare the seeds by soaking them in warm water for a couple of days. The seeds that sink will be viable and should germinate within 2 weeks. Trees can also be propagated from stem cuttings.
If planting outside - the tree is drought tolerant but should be watered more frequently in the first couple of years as it establishes.
Erythrina caffra is excellent for pollarding, springing back vigorously each year once mature.
These seeds are NOT edible as they are poisonous.
